“Panmunjom Declaration,” on 27 April, was two Koreas incredible historic moment. It was the first time, since the Korean War of 1950-53, that two leaders crossed the border withholding of their hands and declared, there would be no more war on the Korean peninsula.
“The door of peace is opened,” said Professor Yang Moo-jin, MA North Korea study in South Korea. “A huge change in the destiny of the Korean peninsula has begun. Two Koreas leaders opened a new horizon for the denuclearisation of the Korean land the permanent peace settlement and development towards in the inter-Korean relations.”
In a joint statement, two leaders agreed to end the hostile activities of propaganda broadcasts and ceasing to send the balloons into North or South; making the border of the demilitarised area as a ‘peace zone’; reduce the military arms so that it reduced its military tensions; engaged to the Four-Party (North, South Korea, China and the US) talks; arranging the family reunion has separated from the Korean War; connecting the railways and road across the border; President Moon Jae-in’s visit to Pyongyang in autumn; and the joint participated sports events including the Asian Games this year. This statement has emphatically emphasised, peace must come to both Koreas by ending the Korean War of 65-years armistice agreement.
Nevertheless, we have watch this process very carefully, whether it is North Korea's genuine promises kept words or, here once again, it could be another deception. North Korea's continuing engagement of the chemical weapons with the Assad's Syrian regime, this was revealed By Dipesh Gadher, “UN investigators believe North Korea has a contract to supply the Syrian regime with parts manufacture chemical weapons” (The Sunday Time: 29 April 2018). Pyongyang's supply and supporting the Syrian regime killed hundreds of thousands of the innocent civilians and children, which it again, violated the international norms and regulations. How far the international community allowed North Korea to do this?

It is worth to think of its previous peace deals in North Ireland, the end of apartheid in South Africa, the Colombian peace process, and freedom and independence for East Timor. The lessons of its peace development were on both side benefits, not on one side's peace draw had declared the peace came.
Perhaps it was right. Panmunjom Declaration was the first and a very important step that it had written another historic moment in Korea's history. However, while the peace implied for 80 million Korean inhabitants, the other side of 25 million North Koreans is continued in the coercion, oppression, starvation, torture, imprisonment and forced to devote their loyalty to their great leaders.
Claiming the peace, or peace process, in the scholars general viewpoints insist that of all the meetings (taking process alongside improvement), agreements (such as prisons and prisoners), and negotiations (accepts necessity conditions, such as political constitutions under the process) in which people of politicians or civilians group leaders are involved, to arrange peace between two countries or groups that are fighting each other.
"According to this view, then, one question must be followed with the current peace process on the Korean peninsula -who- shall be represented or responsible for hundreds of thousands of prisoners in the gulags, imprisonment, torture, forcible abortions, rape, execution and hunger people in North Korea? Can any scholars in the universities or peacemakers in the international community or national leaders in the world community able to reply to this answer? Kim Jong-un’s responsibility is not just for the minority core-class, but it should include all persecuted and suffering North Korean people. This young man, Kim Jong-un, has learned nothing about the leadership before his hereditary received from his father, Kim Jong-il."
It is far from any solutions and productive process at the moment, because, the North Korean regime treat these prisoners and people like the olden days’ slavery. Then it must emphasise the entire North Korean people are counted as modern slavery that is under state abuses. This came indicated cruelty from the same dictator, who also executed his uncle Jang Sung-taek, and assassinated his half-brother Kim Jong-Nam, by a VX gas on a foreign soil. Were they not counted one of the North Korean citizens? What clears is that the taken responsibility of the North Korean regime for their own civilians is hardly predicted.
True peace will, and have to come, alongside freedom of faith and belief, freedom of expression, freedom of speech for North Korean people. From this understanding of the peace process has to prioritise the well-being of all 80 million Korean inhabitants, with protecting the rights of people in North Korea alongside real freedom and human rights.
If Kim Jong-un willing to cleanse his crimes of the Kim family, from the millions of North Korean people in the past decades, his processes must come to undertaken the denuclearisation, alongside Gorbachev’s Perestroika (reforms) and glasnost (openness) for North Korean people. Today, Kim Jong-un and his administration understand the 21st gulags in North Korea, the same brutality of Hitler, Stalin, and Mao’s gulags in the 20th century.
North Korean citizens scattered to everywhere today. North Korean women trafficking rate recorded on the highest global rank; imprisonment, torture and rape in the gulags operated on a daily happens; in the society the coercion, oppression and surveillance is on the highest-level; hopeless young generation lived with thinking of their future; starvation continues in North Korea is remained one of the poorest countries in the world.
North Korea unstopped to criticize the US Government, with forthcoming talks in June. North Korean Labour newspaper, on 30 April, said that “What needs for the US is not compulsion and arrogance, but learning of respect of your opponents. America must act rationally.” “The future mankind lies in socialism. Socialism is a common ideal of mankind, and no matter how recklessly the imperialists blocking on our way that we’re moving forward.”
It is not surprised when North Korea accused the West in this way. But, this kind of attitudes would not be helpful after engaging the peace process with South Korea.
It is a long way road to go…
Washington Post’s hypothetical claim on 27 April was not impressed. “Let’s forget a dictator Kim Jong-un, who threatened Washington with nuclear weapons and destroy the US military base in Pacific. An international actor Kim Jong-un is coming.” Washington Post should have asked alternative questions –for how long the road of North Korean people’s liberty and freedom would take...
President Ronaldo Reagan spoke at the Berlin Wall, on 12 June 1987 –“We American Presidents come, because it is our duty to speak, in this place, of freedom.”
Many Christians and suffering men and women in North Korea will rely on President Trump, not to be silent about religious persecution, freedom of speech, freedom of expression and freedom of movement, when he meets Kim Jong-un. If he is, it will imply that the West really doesn’t care about execution, imprisonment, torture and persecution. President Trump should be like Pilate and wash his hands of his responsibilities be like President Ronaldo Reagan, and recognise that there can be no true peace if Christians continue to be persecuted.
We must keep praying, and advocate, for our brothers and sisters in North Korea, until everyone’s peace arrives.
